CENTRESTAGE ELITES: A Futuristic Fashion Spectacle Above Victoria Harbour
GRAZIA Slovenia has just returned from Hong Kong, where, as the only representative of the European media, we experienced one of Asia’s most important fashion events firsthand. Surrounded by the city’s innovation, originality and creative energy, one moment stood out in particular: the opening gala show CENTRESTAGE ELITES, where KIT WAN STUDIOS unveiled more than 30 futuristic creations.
Hong Kong is a city where the future is not merely a distant vision but part of the rhythm of everyday life. That same energy defined CENTRESTAGE, Asia’s premier annual fashion event, which opened at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre with the spectacular CENTRESTAGE ELITES gala show.
Staged in the Grand Hall of the HKCEC against the striking backdrop of Victoria Harbour, the show brought together fashion, visual art, music and performance. At the heart of the evening was KIT WAN STUDIOS, a multidisciplinary design and visual arts studio led by Hong Kong-born creative director and artist Kit Wan.
Fashion as armour for the future
Kit Wan is known for bold, otherworldly creations that he describes as “stage armour”. His work reaches beyond the traditional idea of clothing: the body becomes a living artwork, while fashion serves as a language of storytelling, transformation and performance.
At CENTRESTAGE ELITES, the designer premiered more than 30 new looks combining sci-fi aesthetics, sculptural silhouettes, futuristic materials and striking details. The result was a visually powerful collection that felt like a glimpse into another world – theatrical, fearless and entirely unrestricted.
KIT WAN STUDIOS also maintains a close connection with the music industry. Its impressive list of collaborations includes Hong Kong artists Miriam Yeung, Hins Cheung, MC Cheung and Panther Chan. Kit Wan’s costumes have appeared on some of the world’s most prominent stages, from the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles to the Eurovision Song Contest in the United Kingdom, bringing Hong Kong design to a truly global audience.
Where the runway meets the stage
A dedicated exhibition featuring seven iconic costumes created by KIT WAN STUDIOS for performers including Hins Cheung and Miriam Yeung added another dimension to the evening. The display revealed how costume can become an essential part of an artist’s identity while highlighting the studio’s deep ties to Hong Kong’s music scene and its role in introducing local creativity to the international stage.
Rosanna Law, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, attended the event as Guest of Honour. Celebrities, artists, fashion industry leaders and international guests also gathered for the occasion. The celebrations continued at the after-party with live performances by renowned Hong Kong electronic musician hirsk and Belgian model and musician Kim Peers.
Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and sponsored by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency, CENTRESTAGE is one of the flagship programmes of Hong Kong Fashion Fest. Across four days, the event presented more than 40 activities, including over 30 runway shows and fashion presentations by local and international designers.
The opening night made it clear why Hong Kong remains one of Asia’s most exciting meeting points for fashion, art, music and technology. With a creative vision that celebrates originality and refuses to conform, KIT WAN STUDIOS proved that the future of fashion is not shaped only in the great European capitals – sometimes, it is born beneath the lights of Victoria Harbour.
