Na tednu mode v New Yorku hoja po pisti traja le nekaj minut. Disciplina, ki jo omogoča, pa se gradi leta. Med dogodkom na koledarju CFDA, Break Free NYFW, je Paris Runway Official opazoval nekaj tišjega, a izjemno prepričljivega. Moški modeli niso stopili na pisto, da bi prevladali v prostoru. Hodili so z nadzorom. Z zadržanostjo. Z namenom. Prišli niso le zato, da bi opravili hojo, temveč da bi bili del uspeha celotne modne revije in izrazili spoštovanje do dela v ozadju.

V zakulisju in pod žarometi je postalo jasno naslednje: disciplina se ne začne na pisti. Negovana je bila dolgo pred tem. Videti je bilo, da ti moški tega ne igrajo samo za trenutek na pisti. To je del njih. Na pisti in zunaj nje. Razumejo umetnost preprosto biti.Ti štirje moški niso opredeljeni zgolj z modo. Opredeljujejo jih struktura, študij, karierne ambicije, očetovstvo, filmsko ustvarjanje, pravo, znanost, prijateljstvo, smeh in zavezanost vsakodnevnemu razvoju. Najpomembneje pa je, da smo našli moške za hojo. Štiri posameznike, ki znajo preprosto biti v vsakem okolju, v katerem se znajdejo.

Na naslovnici spoznamo Alexandra Wanga, Briana Metcalfa, Jimmyja Tana in Miguela Contrerasa ter edino žensko, ki se je pojavila na naslovnici Grazia ob štirih moških, Claire Comai. Claire je ustanoviteljica in oblikovalka znamke REHAB New York, ki je bila predstavljena na edinem dobrodelnem dogodku na koledarju CFDA, Break Free, 11. februarja, skupaj s štirimi moškimi modeli.

Zakaj ženska na naslovnici? Ker moški niso prišli prevladovat. Prišli so sodelovat. Claire, ki je pomemben del uspeha dogodka Break Free NYFW, je bila popolna izbira ob štirih moških, ki so ustvarjali ritem revije. Po dogodku so bili predstavljeni tudi v Harper’s Bazaar, FashionX, Fashion Trendsetter in Davinci Magazine.

Disciplina uma: Alexander Z. Wang

Alexander Z. Wang, doma iz Saratoge v Kaliforniji, v modo prinaša intelektualno natančnost.

Trenutno opravlja doktorski študij v okviru programa Harvard–MIT Health Sciences and Technology, z akademskimi temelji na MIT in Caltechu. Pooseblja redko dvojnost znanstvene strogosti in estetske prefinjenosti. Podpisan je pri agenciji Maggie Inc. v Bostonu in je hodil za več kot sto oblikovalcev v New Yorku, Parizu, Los Angelesu, Bostonu in Silicijevi dolini.

To sezono na dogodku Break Free, kjer je nosil Aldo’s House of Formals, ter na revijah Runway 7, Asian NYFW in The Confessional Showroom je njegov korak odražal isto disciplino, kot jo zahteva znanstveno raziskovanje: premišljeno, sodelovalno in natančno.

Brian Metcalf iz Los Angelesa se modelingu približuje kot pripovedi.

Zastopa ga agencija EMG Models, obenem pa je tudi filmski ustvarjalec. Ta ustvarjalna dvojnost oblikuje njegovo prisotnost. Hodil je v New Yorku, Londonu, Parizu in Los Angelesu za več kot sto oblikovalcev, vključno z imeni s koledarja CFDA, zato razume, da oblačila nosijo čustveno arhitekturo.

Jimmy Tan predstavlja strukturirano ambicijo.

Sedež ima v Bostonu, kjer usklajuje modeling z naložbami v nepremičnine ter pripravami na študij prava. Njegov dolgoročni cilj je ustanovitev lastne odvetniške prakse na področju dednega in premoženjskega prava. Njegova filozofija je preprosta: radovednost poganja rast.

Na otvoritveni večer dogodka Break Free je hodil za Aldo’s House of Formals, nato še za Runway 7 in The Confessional Showroom. Njegova hoja je izžarevala tiho intenzivnost. Brez pretiravanja. Brez napora. Le zbranost.

Disciplina, potrebna za gradnjo poslov, pravni študij in hkratno modno kariero, se kaže v drži, pogledu in tempu. Njegova prisotnost na pisti odraža dolgoročno vizijo.

Disciplina globine: Miguel Contreras

Miguel Contreras iz Bostona v modo prinaša prizemljeno čustveno inteligenco.

Ob magistrskem študiju psihologije, očetovstvu in mednarodnih nastopih na pistah v Parizu, New Yorku in Bostonu k modelingu pristopa z zavedanjem, ne z egom.

Med tednom mode v New Yorku je nastopil na dogodkih Break Free, High Tech Moda, Runway 7 in The Confessional Showroom, kjer je pokazal nekaj tihega, a močnega: prisotnost brez sile. V Manhattnu je sodeloval tudi pri fotografiranju z Jimmyjem Tanom, kjer sta s svojo samozavestjo in sproščenostjo ustvarila izjemne uredniške zgodbe.

Njegova disciplina je notranja in reflektivna. Temelji na razumevanju ljudi, kar mu omogoča izjemen občutek za razpoloženje prostora, energijo kolekcije in subtilne čustvene premike, ki oblačilo povzdignejo iz blaga v izraz.

Kar je te štiri moške povezovalo na dogodku Break Free, ni bila enotnost, temveč zadržanost.

Disciplina, ki se gradi vsak dan, je tista, ki na koncu definira pisto. Prav ona naredi moško modno industrijo tako privlačno. Razkriva plat industrije, ki je še nismo videli. Ženske modele pogosto spremljamo od revije do revije, od kampanje do kampanje, v nenehnem prizadevanju, da bi bile modeli. Pri moških pa vidimo nekaj drugega: preprosto so. Ti štirje moški so to, kar morajo biti, v vsakem prostoru, v katerem se znajdejo. Ne le na pisti, temveč tudi v filmu, laboratoriju, pisarni ali odvetniški pisarni. Ne disciplinirajo se za eno samo karierno pot, en študij ali en projekt, temveč za mnoge. Ves čas se razvijajo. Preprosto so prisotni v prostoru, v katerega vstopijo.

Behind the Walk: The Art of Being Alexander, Brian, Miguel & Jimmy – The Male Model Edition

At New York Fashion Week, the runway lasts only minutes. But the discipline behind it lasts years. During the CFDA Calendar Event, Break Free NYFW, Paris Runway Official observed something quieter, yet compelling. The male models were not walking to dominate the room. They were walking with control. With restraint. With intention. They came to not only walk the runway but to truly be a part of the show’s success and acknowledge the work behind the scenes.

What became evident backstage and under the lights was this: discipline does not begin on the runway. It was cultivated long before it. You could see these men did not just simply come and behave like this only on the runway… but it was something much deeper. They were this. On and off the runway. They understood the art of just being.

These four men are not defined solely by fashion. They are defined by structure, study, career ambition, fatherhood, filmmaking, law, science, friendship, laughter and the commitment to evolve daily. But most importantly, we found the men behind the walk. We found four men truly finding a way to just be in any setting they were in.

On the cover meet Alexander Wang, Brian Metcalf, Jimmy Tan, Miguel Contreras and the only female to grace the Grazia cover with four males – Claire Comai. Claire is the founder and designer behind the brand REHAB New York, which was presented at the only charity event on the CFDA Calendar, Break Free on February 11th alongside the four male models.

Why the female on the cover? Because the males did not come to dominate. They came to collaborate. And Claire, who is a large part of the Break Free NYFW success, was the perfect person to put alongside the four men that we found to be the rhythm of the show. They have been featured on Harper’s Bazaar since the show, FashionX, Fashion Trendsetter and Davinci Magazine.

They are the men behind the walk.

Discipline of the Mind: Meet Alexander Z. Wang

Hailing from Saratoga, California, Alexander Z. Wang (@alexanderzwang) carries intellectual precision into fashion.

Currently pursuing a PhD through the Harvard–MIT Health Sciences and Technology program, with academic foundations from MIT and Caltech, Wang embodies a rare duality: scientific rigor and aesthetic refinement. Signed with Maggie Inc. in Boston, he has walked for over one hundred designers across New York, Paris, Los Angeles, Boston, and Silicon Valley.

This season at Break Free where he wore Aldo’s House of Formals, as well as walking the runway at Runway 7, Asian NYFW, and The Confessional Showroom, his stride reflected the same discipline required in research… measured, collaborative, exact.

For Alex, the runway is not performance alone. It is coordination. Timing. Respect for collective effort. A structured exchange between designer and model.

Discipline of Story: Brian Metcalf

Los Angeles–based Brian Metcalf (@bametcalf1) approaches modeling as narrative.

Represented by EMG Models, Metcalf is also a filmmaker… a creative duality that informs his presence. Having walked in New York, London, Paris, and Los Angeles for over one hundred designers, including CFDA names, he understands that clothing carries emotional architecture.

At Break Free, where Monday Blues presented on the CFDA calendar earlier in the day, Metcalf’s walk for the CFDA Designer was not theatrical but very intentional. Subtle shifts of expression. Controlled pacing. Awareness of light and lens. Brian took his film experience and his storytelling to the runway where all eyes watched him present Monday Blues Studio, a CFDA Designer who presented at Mercedes Benz of Manhattan earlier that day.

The discipline of filmmaking… framing, timing, interpretation translates seamlessly to runway. Every step becomes a scene. Brian walked for CFDA designer Monday Blues, as well as Aldo’s Formals where he wore a beautiful handcrafted suit.

Discipline of Depth: Miguel Contreras

Boston-based Miguel Contreras (@_ken.pachii) brings grounded emotional intelligence to fashion.

Balancing a master’s degree in psychology with fatherhood and international runway appearances in Paris, New York, and Boston, Contreras approaches modeling with awareness rather than ego.

During New York Fashion Week, appearing at Break Free, High Tech Moda, Runway 7, and The Confessional Showroom, he demonstrated something understated yet powerful: presence without force. Miguel was also featured in a photo shoot alongside Jimmy Tan in Manhattan, where their confidence and carefree personality took over the shoot to create beautiful editorials.

His discipline is internal. Reflective. Rooted in understanding people which makes him uniquely attuned to the mood of a room, the energy of a collection, and the subtle emotional shifts that elevate a garment from fabric to expression.

Discipline of Ambition: Jimmy Tan

Jimmy Tan (@jxmmytan) represents structured ambition.

Based in Boston, Tan balances modeling with real estate investment while preparing for law school, with long-term plans to establish a solo practice in trusts and estates law. His philosophy is simple: curiosity fuels growth.

Walking for Aldo’s House of Formals across Break Free on Opening Night of NYFW, then walking for Runway 7 and The Confessional Showroom, Tan carried quiet intensity. No excess. No strain. Just composure.

The discipline required to build businesses, prepare for legal study, and pursue fashion simultaneously manifests in posture, gaze, and pace. His runway presence reflects someone who understands long-term vision.

OPENING NIGHT OF CFDA CALENDAR EVENT – BREAK FREE

What united these four at Break Free was not uniformity but it was restraint.

In an era where visibility often competes with volume, these men represent something steadier: masculinity shaped by discipline, not display.

Their lives outside fashion are not distractions from modeling but they are the foundation of it.

And perhaps that is the quiet evolution unfolding at New York Fashion Week.

The male model today is not merely a canvas.

He is a thinker.
A father.
A filmmaker.
A future attorney.
A scientist.

Behind the walk is structure.
Behind the posture is preparation.
Behind the gaze is growth.

And that discipline which is cultivated daily is what ultimately defines the runway. It is what is making the male industry of modeling so captivating. It is showing a side to the industry we have not witnessed before… We see female models go from show to show, campaign to campaign, striving to be a model. But with the male we see him just ‘being’. We see these four men being whatever it is they need to be in whatever room they may stand in. Not just the runway – but in a film, a lab, an office, a law firm. We see they are not discipling themselves for just one career path, not just one education, not just one film. But many. Evolving… always growing. Simply ‘being’ in the room they enter. They show us what is behind the walk.
